New smart home system with tailored controls provides independence for disabled homeowner
Located in Oklahoma City, the newly remodeled Price residence was custom designed to deliver a wheelchair-friendly smart home that would enable its tech-savvy homeowner to achieve a new level of independence. With extensive experience leading programs that empower disabled people to maximize their fullest potential, homeowner Jason Price also wanted to help likeminded individuals discover what can be attained through technology.
THE CHALLENGE
After purchasing his new home in Oklahoma City, Price set out to find a high-end home automation system that would simplify how he controlled all aspects of his home utilizing one single interface.
THE SOLUTION
After researching premium smart home offerings online, Price was confident that Crestron was the right solution that would help him meet his goals. Working with Voyager Home Systems, Price saw his vision become a reality. The Crestron Home™ platform helped reduce the programming time significantly for a quick and easy install. With the intuitive user interface, he can easily control everything he wants to in the home.
THE TECHNOLOGY
Using the Crestron Home platform, Voyager was able to integrate audio, video, thermostats, HVAC, door locks, motorized door openers, and home security. From the Crestron Home app on his iPad® tablet, Price can control entertainment, temperature, and lighting throughout the home. Crestron lighting control is present in every room, including the garage, where Price can make manual adjustments or activate any of the pre-programmed scenes with a single tap. Crestron DigitalMedia™ technology was deployed to distribute content to displays throughout the home, including in two bedrooms, the theater, and the living room. A Crestron multi-room audio system provides audio distribution so that Price can hear every beat of a song or each play of a sporting event, no matter which room he’s in. Voyager was able to customize the system to accommodate Price’s specific requests, including an Apple TV® media player encoded with Dolby Vision® format and sports encoded with HLG.
Accessibility was an important aspect of this project design and Voyager customized the system to go above and beyond. Control of the home’s motorized doors was added to the Crestron Home interface. For home security, Price has a list of codes for his doors and he is now able to assign them to his nursing staff to provide entry. “I’m able to do just about everything in my house from Crestron Home; elevate my bed, water my lawn, and so much more,” said Price.
RESULTS
The completed project resulted in a system that simplified Price’s day-to-day life, enabling him to control everything from the convenience of his iPad. Crestron Home has broken down barriers for him, enabling him to control his home in a way he had never imagined before. “When you get the right technology with the right dealers, it can create the most incredible experience,” explains Price. “Many companies will say they deliver a great customer experience, but Crestron and Voyager have really proven
