The Client
Xfinity Live! Philadelphia is a dining and entertainment complex located at the corner of 11th and Pattison Avenue, in the heart of the South Philadelphia sports complex. A favorite destination for sports fans and others, this facility is comprised of numerous indoor and outdoor restaurants and bar facilities, as well as a stage for live events. XFINITY Live! is the go-to place to watch the game of the day and has become a media hub for various live broadcasts.
The facility features a 24-foot LED video wall outside as well as a massive 32-foot LED screen inside at the NBC Sports Arena, which is flanked on either side by additional video walls and projection screens. In addition, nearly 100 LCD/LED displays and projectors complete the massive AV footprint.
The Challenge
Most all of the 50+ video inputs for the system are located in a central A/V rack. Existing A/V extenders could not handle modern, high resolution video, and provided very little flexibility in routing video signals throughout the facility.
Furthermore, with a centralized traditional matrix paired with extenders, adding videos inputs throughout the facility that could be routed everywhere was not feasible.
The Solution
Aurora’s VLX 1G AV over IP solution was chosen to upgrade the video distribution throughout the entire facility using existing network cabling as well as new cable pulls to various locations. A mix of box and wall plate transceivers were used, allowing for flexible installation locations, whether in the rack, behind the displays, or in a wall.
In addition to the complete video distribution overhaul, the facility was due for an upgrade to the A/V control system. A single Aurora RXC-4 controller was used for managing the entire system. Like all Aurora ReAX controllers, the RXC-4 provides a web-based control interface created with Aurora’s Core Studio software. Xfinity Live! utilized existing computers at the various DJ booths and other locations to serve up customized control panels for each zone as well as master facility controls for administrators.
