Planar LED Video Wall Provides Efficient Interface for Digital Control System of Waste-to-Energy Facility
Founded in 1922, Groupe TIRU (TIRU) Usine SYCTOM Isséane is a French company located in the Paris suburb of Issy-Les-Moulineaux that specializes in energy recovery from waste. TIRU designs, builds and operates thermal, biological and material treatment units throughout France, Great Britain and Canada, recovering approximately 3 million tons of waste per year, which is converted to electricity and steam and sold to customers.
At TIRU's Isséane multifilament center—a collection and sorting facility in Issy-les-Moulineaux that includes an incineration unit with energy recovery—a rear-projection display was previously used in conjunction with the center's digital control system. But as the display was approaching its end of life, TIRU identified the need for a new control room display solution to monitor its systems, identify problems and manage process operations in the most efficient manner possible.
After evaluating options, TIRU selected and subsequently installed a Planar TWA Series fine pitch LED video wall with a 1.4 millimeter pixel pitch (TWA1.4) in a 3x3 configuration. Designed for 24x7 operation and long-duty cycles, the Planar TWA Series is distinctly suited for control room environments and comes available with a redundant video and power option to ensure continuous operation for the most demanding applications. The Planar TWA Series is architected to support the highest pixel density and also delivers benefits unique to its "flat panel" design, including a 16:9 form factor optimized for the most popular high-resolution standards.
"The Planar TWA Series video wall offers a high-quality image and a much wider viewing angle as compare to the previous rear projection display," said Laurent Lehuby, assistant head of maintenance with TIRU. "Moreover, the new Planar LED video wall provides an efficient and simple interface for our process as well as a better interface for the control room staff. Our unit factory receives a lot of visits and the video wall has proven to be a very effective communication tool. In our view, Planar video walls are number one in the market."
