For 15 years, the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival has reigned as one of the world’s largest music events and the biggest jazz festival in the Southern Hemisphere. Founded in 2005 by Indonesian media mogul Peter F. Gontha, the festival has featured performances by thousands of leading jazz musicians and attracted international attendees over the course of the three-day event each March.
Jakarta-based system integrator PT. Interindo Multimedia has led all broadcast operations for the Java Jazz Festival since 2006, including capturing ISO recordings and livestreaming the event to viewers around the world via YouTube, DTH-TV First Media, Telkom Vision and Bali Tower. Critical to the livestreaming workflow is a range of AJA gear for streaming, video and audio I/O, fiber transmission, frame synchronization and conversion.
During the live concerts throughout the festival, AJA’s FS2 dual-channel converter and frame synchronizer is used for production at each of the main event stages for HD color correction and audio embedding. From the event stages, signals are transmitted to the master control room via AJA’s FiDO-TR single channel 3G-SDI fiber transceivers, which facilitate long cable runs up to 10 km with electrical isolation for eliminating ground loop problems. For live festival broadcasts, HD video signals are also routed to the master control room via an AJA KUMO 3232 router. In the master control room, AJA’s KONA LHi multi-format video and audio I/O card provides connectivity for bridging incoming signals to a range of editing and effects software for live cosmetic cleanup and graphics additions, as well as distribution via social media platforms. For livestreaming of line cuts to YouTube, signals are recorded and distributed live to the CDNs by AJA’s standalone HELO H.264 streaming, recording and encoding device.
HELO is heavily relied upon as the main solution for livestreaming Java Jazz Festival performances to YouTube, as its proven reliability supports rigorous 15-hour continuous uptimes with no margin for error or equipment failure. “HELO is the most stable encoding solution we’ve used to date, saving our team time and money – and taking the headache out of our livestreaming workflow,” said Djundi Karjadi, General Manager, PT. Interindo Multimedia, “Since integrating HELO, we no longer have to worry about downtime or equipment performance and can rest assured in the quality of our livestream broadcasts.”
PT. Interindo Multimedia has depended on AJA equipment for livestreaming and event productions since 2007, benefiting from quality, price and AJA’s uptime guaranty that gear will not fail in critical workflows.
